Family Crisis Services operates an emergency shelter for women and children in Portland, Maine. Our 16 bed shelter is a temporary home for those who are over 18 years old and experiencing domestic violence.
At our shelter, residents share bedrooms, bathrooms, and common living spaces. We provide basic necessities such as food, clothing, and personal care items. Residents are offered in-house education programs, individual advocacy, case management services, and safety planning.
Our shelter offers a bright, friendly children’s play room full of activities appropriate for ages infant – 10 year olds. For older children we are equipped with board games, school supplies, books, crafts, cable TV and an assortment of DVD’s. We are located near several schools and playgrounds.
A Children’s Advocate is on staff to link Mom’s to various resources pertaining to their children’s needs. These resources may include free or low cost clothing or diapers, transportation to public school, child care providers, counselors, doctors, referrals to Kid’s Legal, and discussing troubling behaviors.
